Find the right type of fund for you

We’ve put the many KiwiSaver funds into five groups so you can compare funds with a similar amount of risk.

Depending on how long you are investing for and your attitude towards risk, one type (defensive, conservative, balanced, growth, or aggressive) will probably work best for you.

Answer these three questions to find the right type of fund for you. 

1How long before you expect to start spending your KiwiSaver money – for a first home or in retirement?

2What’s most important to you while you’re saving?

3What range of gains and losses are you comfortable with over a single year?

Answer the questions above to figure out your fund type.

Important

If you have significant other investments in addition to KiwiSaver, you should take those into account. For example, if you have lots of low-risk bank term deposits, you may want a higher-risk KiwiSaver fund.
